It astounds me how much the different telenovelas we studied, and the ones we didn't for that matter, are able to comment on issues around the world - comments on everything from gender roles to government corruption. I was very ignorant about this fact at the start of the semester. I'll be the first to admit I thought telenovelas were shallow, dramatic shows - but boy was I SO wrong!
